Who is Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge?

Through the organization Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge (CRBCL), Cowessess First Nation is the first Indigenous community in Canada to assert its jurisdiction over child welfare and family services under the Bill-C92 Canada Act. CRBCL is currently developing its operations in accordance with the Miyo Pimatisowin Act, which provides support for its children and families in a way that is rooted in traditional Indigenous values and cultural practices.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Early Years Leader, the Awasis (Child) Program Worker will be directly involved with meeting families and helping achieve what programming they will be a part of and/or require. By identifying the needs of families, this incumbent will be comfortable facilitating activities individually or as a part of a team as well as participating in traditional teachings and contributing to circles with children, youth and families.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Must have Early Childhood Education Certificate or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with children and/or families
  • Knowledge of Bill-C92 and the prevention services that accompany it.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite

  • Attentive to the needs of families and able to assess and provide key strategies to promote healthy child development
  • Have a strong knowledge of cultural teachings and encourages indigenous traditions.
  • Comfortable facilitating in large groups.
  • Kind and courteous to youth and families with the ability to create a positive experience.
  • Able to collaborate with staff and coordinate outings, presentations, and ongoing projects.
  • Actively participates in the programs and encourage parents and youth to partake.
  • Create activities and facilitate with respectful, positive examples, yet providing inspirational support and guidance.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned.
