Who is Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge?

Cowessess First Nation is the first Indigenous rights holder Nation to sign a coordination agreement in Canada. Cowessess First Nation asserted jurisdiction when it comes to child welfare and family services through the implementation of the Miyo Pimatisowin Act and respected by Canada through their Bill C-92 legislation. Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge (CRBCL), which has jurisdiction from the Miyo Pimatisowin Act, changes the approach of child and family services by providing support in a way that is rooted in traditional Indigenous values and cultural practices. Rather than the common intervention approach, CRBCL provides empowerment through a prevention approach with healing and prevention as the preferred method for ensuring children and their families are safe and growing together in a healthy way.

Position Summary

CRBCL is currently seeking three (3) high energy, tech savvy, adaptable and self-motivated individuals to join our fast-paced team as Administrative Assistants. The Administrative Assistant brings a positive, engaged and forward-thinking attitude to their role. Key responsibilities will include: point of contact duties in addition to more complex functions and services, such as arranging travel plans, minute-taking during confidential meetings, and scheduling appointments concerning the processes and procedures of the assigned department. They are expected to assist the department with any administrative duties such as maintaining accurate records and electronic files, tracking timelines and drafting documents including sensitive correspondence, therefore ability to uphold confidentiality is essential.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Diploma in Administration or relevant field is preferred
  • 2+ years of direct work experience in an Administrative Assistant capacity or equivalent

Essential Skills & Abilities

  • Superior typing skills and proficiency in computer literacy, including Adobe and Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, Sharepoint, etc.)
  • Strong and effective communication skills, both written and verbal is necessary
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work productively with minimal supervision as well as within a team setting
  • Demonstrated ability in organization and punctuality
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to work productively under pressure
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable vehicle with a willingness to travel as required

General Duties

  • Maintain daily appointment calendar as well as schedule and arrange appointments and meetings as needed.
  • Provide direct administrative and office management support to all members of the assigned department, as instructed by immediate supervisor.
  • Coordinate the logistical aspects of team programs, meetings, seminars, workshops, special projects, and events.
  • Review all necessary documents, reports, and other correspondence for proper formatting, content, grammar and spelling, and make edits as necessary.
  • Perform minute-taking as well as prepare draft reports, supporting documentation, and research.
  • Update and maintain database system and all relevant electronic filing as necessary.
  • Receive and direct all inbound telephone calls, e-mails, and visitors as applicable.
  • Coordinate assigned department office activities; troubleshoot or escalate basic office administration issues.
  • Perform quality control for administrative processes and forms, ensuring completion and accuracy prior to submission
  • Facilitate communication within the team and across the organization as necessary.
  • Complete expense reports, submit invoices for processing, and other monetary duties
  • Other duties as assigned

Additionally, the incumbent must provide a successful criminal background check with vulnerable sector search as well as be willing and able to commute to the CRBCL Head Office on a semi-regular basis, which is located on Cowessess First Nation, SK.
